What’s the difference between a regular Starbucks and one inside another store or airport?

Nov 05

Most Starbuckses that are inside other establishments are “licensed” stores. That means they’re licensed to use Starbucks branding and products, but the employees behind the counter are employees of the larger establishment, not of Starbucks itself. So the person making your latte at Target is a Target employee, not a Starbucks employee.

There’s usually not a huge difference in the end, but different companies train people differently, so the results you get may vary. And in some cases, you might get canned whipped cream instead of fresh-made whipped cream — the horror!

Sometimes licensed stores can’t accept certain coupons or cards, or participate in certain promotions. It varies by location.
